An Evening with Dr. Akilah Cadet: A Black Futures Month Celebration
Tuesday, February 18th from 6:30pm - 8pm
SF Public Library Main Branch, Koret Auditorium - 100 Larkin Street
Please join us on February 18th for a special Black Futures Month talk between Dr. Akilah Cadet — author, activist and founder and CEO of Change Cadet, an organizational development consulting firm — and Shakirah Simley, Executive Director of Booker T. Washington Community Service Center. We’ll be discussing Dr. Cadet’s book, "White Supremacy Is All Around: Notes from a Black Disabled Woman in a White World.”
As a Forbes Next 1000 Entrepreneur Dr. Cadet is behind some of the biggest brands you use everyday. Dismantling white supremacy through storytelling is at the core of her work as a leader, speaker, creative director, producer, writer, editor, co-owner of the Oakland Roots and Soul soccer teams (she led the most successful community investment round in sports history) Dr. Cadet is a powerhouse, literally has all the degrees, lives in and loves Oakland, CA, celebrates her disability, is a proud Beyoncé advocate, and has an incredible shoe game.
The event will also feature a special performance by Michael Wayne Turner III the classically trained thespian and award-winning poet behind Hat Matter, which was performed at the Kennedy Arts Center in 2023.
